The Willamette boys and girls swim team recently competed in the 2020 5A-2 Midwestern League High School District Championships. The event took place over the weekend at Willamalane Park Swim Center in Springfield. The Wolverines were outstanding finishing in 4th place as a team combined and in the process qualifying 7 swimmers individually for the State Championships. The State Championships will take place this Friday Feb. 21st and Saturday the 22nd at Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton. The Wolverines 200 Yard Medley Relay team consisting of Kaitlyn Doughty, Grace Oster, Emily Phillips, and Hannah Phillips will be competing this weekend in that event as they represent Willamette in the State Championships. Hannah Phillips will also swim in the 50 free and 100 fly individually. Kaitlyn Doughty qualified in the 100 back, while Grace Oster will represent in the 100 breast stroke. Kaitlyn Doughty will swim the 500 free and then complete her weekend cheering on teammates Emily Philips, Ella Samuelson, Grace Oster, and Hannah Phillips in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. This relay group was outstanding in the district finals finishing in 2nd place and swimming a time of 1:45.92. Caitlin Russell and Rhys Allen were also outstanding in the district finals and have been honored with joining their teammates as alternates on relay teams.
The Wolverines also won the District Sportsmanship Award and the 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Kaitlyn Doughty, Grace Oster, Emily Phillips, and Hannah Phillips is an All-Time Willamette High School Record!
On the boys side of the pool, Josh Phillips swam 1:52.09 in the boys 200 Yard Freestyle finishing in 4th place and advancing to the state finals in that event. Joining Josh in Beaverton will be Evan Dickens who qualified for State in the 500 Yard Free with an outstanding mark of 5:20.94.
